Gold Toe Cotton Fluffies not fluffy! July 14, 2010 Maria M. Alliegro I should have heeded the other reviews of this product. These socks are not the classic Gold Toe "Fluffies" that have been so hard to find in department stores these days. I have about 6 old pairs of them and they are practically threadbare. I have been needing to replace them, but cannot find "Fluffies" in white, and THESE ARE NOT THE SAME!!! Very disappointed, and I don't understand why Gold Toe does not make the Fluffies in white anymore. I have only seen them in tan in JC Penney, but that would not look right with sneakers. I guess my search must go on.
bad socks July 11, 2010 V. Hansmann (Greenwich Village, USA) Far too much elasticity, which gets MORE and MORE restrictive over time. The old GT plain white cotton socks were my atandby. I don't want a white athletic sock, I want a white everyday sock. Gold Toe has stopped making 'em. Well, good-bye Gold Toe.
Not the Gold Toe socks they used to be June 13, 2010 Larry W. Mccloskey (Boston, MA) What happened to Gold Toe socks I used to wear exclusively? Yes, these feel soft at first touch. Fluffy? Absolutely not. The sole is so thin and rough, you can feel the weave rubbing against the bottom of your foot. I need to find a new brand.
Update: Now, after 2-3 wearings, one sock split at the heel while I was putting it on. What junk! Changing my rating from 2 stars to 1.
YIKES! December 9, 2009 Charlie (Tennessee) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I have worn the original Gold Toe Fluffies white socks for years. They are/were absolutely great. The substance of the substantial cotton ribbing was sufficient to keep them up without the rubber thingy at the top squeezing off the blood & lymphatic tissue in the legs. They also lasted a very long time. I bought enough so that I could wear them every day & have a 3 weeks supply on hand. A few pair would wear out, and I would replace them. I am very rough on socks.
I read some bad reviews for the current version that were made with polyester. When I found I could still get the Fluffies in cotton, I bought a bunch. BIG MISTAKE. I think it is a crime what they have done to the best pair of casual socks on the market. The socks are fluffy alright. But, it is a completely different sock. There is probably half as much total cotton in the new model. It seems that I can feel the individual threads when I walk sock foot across a hardwood floor. Plus the tight rubber thingy at the top cuts off the circulation in my legs. Whoops, sorry. I'm not a vascular surgeon. Perhaps I should just say that it pinches my leg, and my leg swells above the top of my socks.
If you are used to the ones Gold Toe used to make, look elsewhere for something similar. This ain't it.
my feet feel so pampered December 3, 2009 Matthew G. Sherwin (last seen screaming at Amazon customer service) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
These fluffy cushion crew socks by Gold Toe are very well made and they keep my feet warm. In fact, they have that extra heavy cotton fabric to absorb any perspiration and that's a nice feature. I started to wear these not just during the day but also when it's cold at night and I want socks on my feet to help keep them warm and comfy!
These crew length socks have a reinforced heel and toe; this makes them last longer and they still feel very comfortable on my feet. The socks come in white and other colors including navy blue and brown; I like that.
Whatever you do, don't dry these socks at high temperatures. Exposure to very high heat in the clothes dryer will eventually result in your socks becoming too loose on your feet. The fabric loosens so much that the socks will "bunch up," perhaps even as low as your ankles when you wear them--that's very uncomfortable and it doesn't look too good, either. Dry these socks at low temperatures and they'll stay as comfortable as ever.
These socks by Gold Toe are some of the best out there for us guys. They keep my feet extra warm during colder weather. They are manufactured very well so that I get my money's worth.
Highly recommended.
